ʔaq̓am nasuʔkin and ʔiⱡwat̓naʔis (Council) is seeking persons interested in being on the ʔaqanaxuniyam kȼxakȼawas (Membership Committee) to fill a vacant position on the Committee. If you have experience in interpreting and applying ʔaq̓am laws and have knowledge of Ktunaxa genealogy, culture, language, history, and the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory please submit your expression of interest.
The objectives of the Membership Committee are to:
(a) assess and make decisions about applications to become a ʔaq̓amnik̓ (member) or Associate Member;
(b) make recommendations to ʔiⱡwat̓naʔis ʔaq̓am (Council) regarding policies and procedures necessary for the effective implementation of the Band Membership ʔa·knumuȼtitⱡiⱡ (Law).
ʔaqanaxuniyam kȼxakȼawas (Membership Committee) is composed of five (5) people:
(a) each of whom must be a ʔaq̓amnik̓ (member);
(b) at least one (1) of whom must be a member of ʔiⱡwat̓naʔis ʔaq̓am (Council); and
(c) at least one (1) of whom must be a member of the Language Speakers and Knowledge Holders Group.
The following attributes are desired:
- Community/Band member engagement experience.
- An understanding of ʔaq̓am’s strategic goals and objectives in relation to Ka kniⱡwi·tiyaⱡa.
- Have an ability to interpret and apply ʔaq̓am laws
- Have knowledge of Ktunaxa genealogy, culture, language, and history,
- Have knowledge of the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory
- Act with honesty and in good faith with the/for ʔaq̓am.
- Be in ‘Good Standing’ with ʔaq̓am.
- Must be willing to sign and abide by an Oath of Office, Confidentiality agreement and a Conflict-of-Interest agreement.
- Be able to meet on a regular basis.
